The Evolve Acupuncture Method is a distal acupuncture approach developed by Australian acupuncturist Jeff Shearer. It emerged over time through his clinical use of several established distal systems and his ongoing attempt to make treatment more efficient without losing clarity in assessment or results. After studying with practitioners including Richard Tehfu Tan, Wei Chieh Young, and Henry McCann, Jeff adopted distal strategies that improved outcomes and reduced the need for complex prescriptions. In 2021 he was introduced to Neoclassical Acupuncture as taught by Slate Burris, which further reduced needle numbers, typically to 1 to 4, and reinforced the value of a simplified, testable process. The Evolve Method is his consolidation of these influences into a single framework designed for repeatable application in musculoskeletal injury and pain cases.
What you will learn
The Evolve Acupuncture Method focuses on identifying functional relationships between different parts of the body and using those relationships to select distal points with a small needle count, commonly 1 to 4. A structured palpation approach is used to support diagnosis, guide point choice, and confirm whether a selection is appropriate before and after needling. The intent is to use palpation not as an added technique, but as a decision tool that helps practitioners narrow options quickly and work with a consistent logic.
